Real Sociedad pivot Martin Zubimendi has been performing at a top level for a number of years, and has been on the radar of a number of top clubs too, but thus far, has shown no desire to leave the club. However the door is not as firmly closed to an exit as it was in the past.

Zubimendi was adamant that he wanted to remain at Real Sociedad and help lead them into the Champions League for the first time in a decade last summer, something he and the Txuri-Urdin did admirably this season.

The 25-year-old has been a long-time target for Barcelona, but has a €60m release clause in his contract. Matteo Moretto has told Football España that if a side pays that clause this summer, and puts a big offer on the table, then Zubimendi will consider said offer. The Italian transfer journalist also explained that Bayern Munich and teams from the Premier League are interested in him.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Zubimendi too, who shares an agent with manager Mikel Arteta, who is also from Gipuzkoa. Barcelona Sporting Director Deco met with Zubimendi’s agent this week, with the two sides clashing on Monday night, but many have pointed to the financial situation in Catalonia as a major obstacle to a move to Montjuic, even if he is a priority target for Xavi Hernandez.
