Does Dylan Guenther deserve a call-up to the Coyotes?
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Coyotes prospect Dylan Guenther hasn’t seen any NHL action this season, as he has been in the minors.

But, with center Jack McBain (lower body), left wing Matias Maccelli (upper body) and center Barrett Hayton (upper body) all out due to injuries for Arizona, does Guenther have a genuine shot at receiving a call-up to the NHL?

Guenther’s Timeline

As the #9 overall selection in the 2021 NHL Draft, Guenther is one of piece of the Coyotes’ future.

After playing in just 33 games last season with the ‘Yotes, Guenther scored 6 goals and had 9 assists for 15 points.

However, Guenther was surprisingly sent back to juniors with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League to conclude his 2022-23 campaign.

Although he would show glimpses of talent in the NHL, Guenther arrived in Seattle and proved why he was drafted so high.

Posting 13 goals and 16 assists in 20 games for the Thunderbirds exemplified the potential that Coyotes fans know he possesses.

Following last season, Guenther would score a goal and have an assist in four preseason games for Arizona.

Unexpectedly, the Coyotes sent Guenther down to Tucson on Oct. 8.

From what looked like he was gonna have a guaranteed spot on Arizona’s roster, Guenther went to the AHL.

Since then, he has blossomed.

So far, Guenther has scored 4 goals and assisted 8 times for 12 points in 12 games.

With the uncertainty around when Maccelli, Hayton and McBain returning, Guenther could very well be a viable option for the Coyotes and see what he can do.

Right now, Roadrunners forwards Jan Jeník and Miloš Kelemen have been recalled by Arizona, so Guenther has to wait for another opportunity down the line.

Also, Maccelli’s setback doesn’t look serious and a quick return is inevitable as he is out day-to-day.

Still, if Guenther’s play in the minors continues, it won’t be long until he makes a return to the ‘Yotes.
