Will Grier was at practice on Thursday afternoon. No one knew it at the time, but it was his last session as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Less than a month after deciding to come to Cincinnati, Grier chose to sign with the Patriots 53-man roster.

The decision couldn't come at a worse time for the Bengals. Star quarterback Joe Burrow is dealing with a calf injury and while there's hope that he'll play on Monday night against the Rams, it would've been ideal to have a third quarterback in the building.

Jake Browning is the only other signal-caller on the roster [including practice squad] following Grier's departure.

They need to sign someone else, even if Burrow suits up on Monday night. Who will they target?

The two most likely options are Trevor Siemian and Reid Sinnett.

Siemian is the clear favorite, but it's unclear if he'd be willing to sign with the Bengals practice squad after spending most of the offseason on the roster.

If the Bengals were willing to put a third quarterback on their 53-man roster, wouldn't they have just promoted Grier? Siemian didn't want to sign with the Bengals practice squad after being released a few weeks back. Maybe his attitude has changed. If it hasn't, then the Bengals could turn to Sinnett.

The 26-year-old signed with the team after Burrow suffered his initial calf injury on July 27. He played in the Bengals' final preseason game and at least knows the system. If they're looking for a third quarterback for Monday's matchup with Los Angeles, Sinnett could make sense—especially if they aren't able to reach a deal with Siemian.

Other free agent quarterbacks including Carson Wentz, Cam Newton, Nick Foles, Colt McCoy and Brett Rypien. It's unlikely that they'd bring in someone new with their game against the Rams just three days away, but stranger things have happened.

If they did end up signing Siemian or any other veteran to the 53-man roster and Burrow was active on Monday night, then they could make the veteran their emergency third quarterback, which is essentially an extra active spot on gameday.

That player has to be on the roster and can't be a practice squad elevation to be eligible for the third quarterback spot.
