Los Angeles Chargers’ J.K. Dobbins Sounds Off on Injury History ‘Out The Window’
Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

J.K. Dobbins is heading west, looking to elevate his career by sharing a backfield with gifted quarterback Justin Herbert and in hopes of benefitting from a ground-and-pound offense imported by new Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Dobbins also hopes he can leave his ‘injury-prone’ label behind him in Baltimore.

“You got the injury-prone [label] out there, but I think the storm is over with, and I think I’m going to take off now,” Dobbins said, via ESPN. “There’ll be no setbacks, and this injury-prone thing will be gone out the window.”

Now 25, and entering his fourth NFL season since being chosen by the Ravens in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Dobbins is looking to bounce back from a torn Achilles suffered last September, with a lengthy injury history that includes a fractured fibula, pedal ankle sprain, as well as an ACL tear that sidelined him the entire 2021 campaign.

How J.K. Dobbins fits Los Angeles Chargers’ Offense

Dobbins lands in Los Angeles, and in Harbaugh’s offense hoping to turn the page.

Rushing for just 22 yards with one touchdown last season, Dobbins has logged 234 career carries for 1,347 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

Given that the Chargers traded Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and allowed Mike Williams to walk via free agency, Los Angeles seems primed to embody the physical run-based offense that Harbaugh won a national championship with last season at Michigan.

Dobbins could be the biggest beneficiary.

“He sticks with the run, and that’s the identity. You want an offense that has an identity,” Dobbins said. “You don’t want to be looking everywhere else to find your identity. You want to have it. And so I think this offense has that.”
