New York Mets' Young Infielder Gets Recovery Timeline From Serious Knee Injury
USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this offseason, New York Mets' prospect Ronny Mauricio tore his ACL playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic.

We learned this week that he was slated for surgery to repair the knee.

Now, we know that he's going to be out 6-8 months as he recovers, per baseball reporter Hector Gomez.

From Gomez on social media:

Ronny Mauricio se sometió ayer con éxito a una cirugía en su rodilla derecha. El tiempo de recuperación será de 6 a 8 meses.

Mauricio se rompió un ligamento de la rodilla derecha durante un partido de la Liga Invernal Dominicana.

From the "translate" function on "X,", that reads like this:

Ronny Mauricio underwent successful surgery on his right knee yesterday. Recovery time will be 6 to 8 months.

Mauricio tore a ligament in his right knee during a Dominican Winter League game.

This means that Mauricio could be back as early as July, but could also not be ready until September. Whether he comes back at all or not likely depends on where the Mets are in the standings and if they need him back or not. The team clearly won't take many chances with it's No. 4 overall prospect.

He appeared in 26 games for the Mets in 2023, hitting .248 with two homers and nine RBI. He got 108 at-bats for the Mets, who finished in fourth place in the National League East.

The following comes from a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile

Mauricio looms large in the box at 6-foot-3 and can make loud impact upon contact from an open stance, especially when hitting from the left side, where he has better slugging numbers. It’s that contact part that’s been a major issue. Mauricio can get aggressive and expand the strike zone with his massive cuts, particularly against spin, leading to a 4.4 percent walk rate, lowest among Mets Minor League qualifiers. Now facing advanced pitching in the upper Minors, he’ll have to make adjustments quickly to prove he’s capable of being more than all-power, little-hit.
